New Self Cleaning Public Restroom Will Open in Downtown Grand Junction

New self cleaning public restroom will open in downtown Grand Junction on 5th Street. City crews are completing the final touches and the restroom is expected to open soon. While the City of Grand Junction makes public restrooms available at all of the drop-in use and park shelter locations, in partnership with Downtown Grand Junction, the city recently installed a self-cleaning, vandal-resistant restroom in downtown Grand Junction at 5th Street south of Main Street.

Due to continued vandalism, safety concerns, and the cost of repairs, the city has created multiple solutions for providing public restrooms. Restrooms are available through the city's park reservation system and made available when renting shelters in parks including Duckpond, Rocket, Columbine and Westlake. The online reservation system is available at GJCity.org, under the Parks and Recreation Department. During warmer months, 16 restroom facilities are also monitored and cleaned by staff on a rotating basis for drop in use at Las Colonias, Dos Rios, Sherwood, Eagle Rim, Riverside and Hawthorne Parks, among others. Porta potties are also available in multiple areas throughout the city, and additional restrooms are available at the Resource Center for unhoused community members.

Public restrooms in City parks are available anytime the park is open according to the park hours. There are some cases where a significant need is shown, such as a Desert Vista where the city has placed porta potties. Any restroom that is locked for any part of the day also has a porta pottie available onsite. The city also makes porta potties available in many areas throughout the community.

Park restrooms are closed in the winter months due to lower temperatures and the potential for freezing pipes.
