City of Los Angeles Recycled Water Fill Stations Reopen to the Public

LOS ANGELES (August 16, 2024)- The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) opened the first of several City of Los Angeles Recycled Water Fill Stations Friday, August 16 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Los Angeles Zoo Parking Lot, 5333 Zoo Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90027. The fill station will be open every Friday until further notice.

"LADWP is always searching for innovative ways to conserve drinking water and support our customers," said Anselmo Collins, Senior Assistant General Manager - Water System. "In 2022, LADWP supplied 150,000 gallons of free recycled water to over 1,300 L.A. customers as part of our Recycled Water Fill Stations program, which has allowed us to conserve 150,000 gallons of drinking water per year. We are pleased to offer this service again this year."

LADWP customers can receive up to 300 free gallons of recycled water per visit, which can be used for landscaping purposes, such as maintaining trees, shrubs, gardens, and lawns. The water also be used to water edible fruits, vegetables, and herbs, but all edible items must be washed with drinking water before consumption. The use of recycled water for irrigation helps support the conservation of drinking water.

To participate in the program, customers must bring their LADWP bill, a government issued ID and their own water-tight containers to the fill stations. They must also attend a brief, on-site training, and submit a signed application and agreement form. Safety stickers will be provided to mark the containers as recycled water only, not suitable for drinking.

The Department is also opening additional Recycled Water Fill Stations at other locations, including at Delano Park beginning August 22 and at the Los Angeles-Glendale (LAG) Water Reclamation Plant in September. The Delano Park location at 15100 Erwin Street, Van Nuys, CA 91411 will operate every Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 2.p.m. All locations will be closed on rainy days and holidays. LADWP is partnering with the Los Angeles Zoo and L.A. Sanitation and Environment (LASAN) on the City's fill stations program.
