NMMA Partners with Wisconsin Community to Promote Boater Safety

This week, in collaboration with the Pewaukee Water Patrol and Onyx Outdoor, NMMA successfully distributed over 200 free life jackets to members of the lakeside community. Despite a near record rainfall in the area, the event saw a significant turnout as local families lined up early to receive the free life jackets.

"We were thrilled to partner with Onyx Outdoor and the NMMA to provide free life jackets to our community," said Luke Twelmeyer of the Pewaukee Water Patrol. "Our goal is to ensure everyone can enjoy the water safely, and events like this help us make a real difference in preventing water-related accidents."

Wisconsin state law mandates that children under 13 wear life jackets when a vessel is underway, and drowning remains a leading cause of accidental death among children. Properly fitting life jackets are crucial in preventing these tragic incidents. The event raised awareness about water safety and equipped many attendees with life jackets for safe summer activities on the water.

Jesse McArdell, Midwest Policy and Engagement Manager with the NMMA, echoed these sentiments, adding, "NMMA is proud to partner with local law enforcement and Onyx Outdoor to promote boating safety through our life jacket giveaway program. By working together, we aim to ensure everyone on the water has access to essential safety gear, making boating a safer and more enjoyable experience for all."

The event was not only a significant step in promoting water safety but also a testament to the power of community collaboration. The distribution event ensures that local families are prepared for safe summer activities on the water. NMMA has four more events planned for the summer in four Minnesota towns: Blue Earth, Grand Rapids, Farmington, and Princeton.
