Grove Condemns Funding Cut to PA Roads

HARRISBURG - Rep. Seth Grove (R-Dover) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Josh Shapiro's announcement to funnel $153 million in highway funding to Philadelphia's public transportation:
"The unilateral decision by the governor to slash funding for Pennsylvania's transportation needs by redirecting it to Philadelphia's public transportation authority, SEPTA, harms drivers, including those in York County. As its name implies, Federal Highway Funding is meant to fix and improve roads and highways, not to prop up public transport.
"Shapiro's order to direct money away from fixing roads will only exacerbate the problem of deteriorating roads and bridges by further delaying when they can be fixed. It means Pennsylvania drivers will have to continue to deal with additional wear and tear on their vehicles. All told, seven projects across the state that were to be funded in 2025 will be delayed. That includes a project to resurface part of Interstate 83 in York County.
"Additionally, mass transit benefits local areas; and counties that use SEPTA should be tasked with filling the budget gap. State government already overfunds SEPTA."
