University of Minnesota Crookston Students for Sustainable Development (CSSD) hosted a breast cancer awareness trivia night event in October at Scobey's Pub and Grub, and donated proceeds to the Breast Cancer Awareness Society. The group, advised by Sustainability Director Katy Chapman, Ph.D., also gave away a cozy fall basket based on participant entries.

U of M Crookston student Sydney Campbell says the event was created in hopes of bringing awareness to breast cancer while educating the public about the disease.

"Replacing our previous 'Cans for Cancer' program, we were able to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation while hitting our goal of educating and creating awareness to the public," Campbell explained.

Student Seohyun Lee added that the event highlighted how local actions, awareness, and community support can contribute to global goals like good health and wellbeing, according to Sustainable Development Goals' 2030 agenda adopted by all United Nations members in 2015.

"We hoped to inspire greater interest in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) through our Breast Cancer Trivia Night," Lee shared. "By coming together, we demonstrated how collective efforts not only promote health but also advance sustainability, paving the way for a healthier, more sustainable future."

Scobey's Pub and Grub, located inside the Crookston Inn and Convention Center, also donated 10% of all food purchased during the event week towards the chosen organization.
