Manchin Announces $408k For Four West Virginia Fire Departments

Washington, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $408,527 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant's (AFG) program. This funding will be used to expand public safety measures, including fire prevention programs, firefighter health and safety research, and increase first responder personnel in Point Pleasant, War, Elk Garden, and Davisville.

"West Virginia firefighters work tirelessly to protect our communities and I'm pleased FEMA is investing more than $408K into these four local fire departments," said Senator Manchin. "The funding announced today will help hire new personnel, boost fire prevention programs, and ensure the health and safety of the Mountain State's courageous firefighters. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to protect first responders who risk their lives every day to keep our communities safe."

The AFG program strives to enhance firefighter safety and public safety as they relate to fire hazards. AFG awards provide critically-needed resources that equip and train emergency personnel to recognized standards, enhance operational efficiencies, foster interoperability and support community resilience.
