"The California Black Chamber of Commerce gives the 2024 President's Award to City Manager Chan for his excellence in public service and his persistent support of the Black business community and entrepreneurs," said Jay King, the chamber's President and Chief Executive Officer. "City Manager Chan has been a consistent leader and partner in his almost eight years as City Manager of Sacramento."

"I am honored to receive this recognition, which reflects the collective efforts by the City of Sacramento and our partners in supporting Black businesses and entrepreneurs in our community," said Chan. "It is a privilege to serve a community rich in diversity, talent, and resilience."

The California Black Chamber of Commerce is the largest African American non-profit business organization representing hundreds of small and emerging businesses, affiliates and chambers of commerce throughout the state.

Chan was appointed City Manager in 2016, becoming the first Asian American person to hold this role in Sacramento's history. As City Manager, he is responsible for leading more than 6,000 full-time and part-time employees and overseeing an annual budget of over $1.6 billion.

He has worked for the City of Sacramento for over 22 years, a tenure that includes almost eight years as City Manager, three years as an Assistant City Manager and more than a decade as Parking Services Manager.

Chan in 2017 received the API Rise Award from the Sacramento Asian Chamber. In 2023, he was named "City Manager of the Year" by the California City Management Foundation, an association of his peers throughout California.
