The Parliamentary Budget Office has published a new research paper, 'Defence Forces: Analysing Ireland's Naval Service.' This publication explores Naval Service specific spending, recruitment, and retention.

The research provides background details of the policy documentation and literature underpinning the Naval Service, and explores government spending trends on the Naval Service, its personnel and infrastructure.

In addition, it provides results of economic modelling on the financial impacts of increasing Naval Service specific allowances and financial incentives for sea patrols, as well as naval performance indicators.
