Duckworth, Durbin Announce More Than $16.8 Million in HHS Grants for Illinois

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] - U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced $16,894,039 in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) grants to Illinois institutions. Of this funding, $16,759,039 will be awarded to the Illinois Department of Public Health for its Public Health Emergency Preparedness Cooperative Agreement and $135,000 will go to the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault to support the organization's mission to provide sexual assault prevention and education services.

"In order to ensure reliable, high-quality care for all Illinoisans during the next public health crisis, we must invest in expanding the reach of Illinois's health care network today," Duckworth said. "I'm proud to join Senator Durbin in announcing this federal support that will help improve health equity while supporting our state's medical providers as they care for the patients and survivors who need it the most."

"Our public health officials and community organizations see Illinoisans through the most difficult times one can face. It's essential that these institutions are adequately funded in order to be at the ready for the next public health crisis or to support the next survivor that reaches out for help," Durbin said. "The federal government also sees the value of these organizations and has offered substantial grant funding to support their missions."
