August is National Wellness Month. Each type of wellness is important across the course of life, from mental and physical wellness to social and intellectual and all other dimensions depicted in the graphic below. As we age, wellness is critical in shaping our quality of life.

In honor of National Wellness Month, here are 10 LeadingAge Learning Hub offerings to support the wellness of both your staff and those you serve:

  1. Mental Health in the Workplace
    In this 22-minute QuickCast, Dr. Shanna B. Tiayon, Founder and CEO of Yes Wellbeing Works, provides an overview of the signs and symptoms of mental distress as well as strategies to care for yourself and others.

    Guided by geriatric psychiatrist Susan Wehry, M.D., this virtual workshop explores how to shift from collective trauma to post-pandemic growth and well-being.

  5. Workforce Well-Being: It's About Burnout
    This Spotlight explores common distress symptoms and proven strategies to manage compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  6. Opening Doors to Aging Services: A LeadingAge Initiative
    This spotlight provides an overview of the Opening Doors to Aging Services initiative, including a review of the external factors and public perceptions that exist today, as well as strategies for leveraging research for impactful communications about our sector.
  7. Fostering Emotional Well-Being Among Team Members
    In this 19-minute QuickCast, Kelly O'Shea Carney explains why a comprehensive systems approach to supporting the emotional well-being of all members of the organization is so important.
  8. Managing Mental Health: Considerations in COVID-19
    In this 13-minute QuickCast, Elizabeth Hale explains how the global pandemic is affecting our mental health and emotional well-being-and ways we can manage it.

There are so many ways to incorporate wellness into our daily lives, both at work and at home. As individuals who care for and serve older adults, it's also imperative for you and your team members to prioritize the wellness of those you serve.
