Winnipeg Transit On-Request changing apps, expanding service into northwest Winnipeg

Winnipeg, MB- Changes are coming to Winnipeg Transit On-Request.

The service, which has operated as a pilot since 2021, is moving to a new app and expanding into northwest Winnipeg. This change comes as Transit makes On-Request a permanent service.

"By integrating On-Request into more communities, we are making it easier for Winnipeggers to connect with jobs, education, and essential services," said Mayor Scott Gillingham. "Enhancements like this help set the stage for the launch of our new transit network next summer."

"On-Request has proved to be an invaluable service these past three years," said Councillor Janice Lukes, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Public Works. "Its success means more and more people in the city will be able to access Winnipeg Transit services."

On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, On-Request will be launching on the Winnipeg Transit+ On-Request app. The app launched in July and is already home to Winnipeg Transit Plus. Transit will be discontinuing the current On-Request app.

Passengers are encouraged to download the app in advance of the August 27 launch. The app is available in both English and French in the Apple Appand Google Playstores. It is also accessible on web browsers at winnipegtransit.com/bookonrequest.

Introducing a new service zone

On-Request will soon be available in northwest Winnipeg. On Sunday, September 1, 2024, a fourth zone - 103 Maples- will be added to the service.

People travelling in the new zone will be able to access On-Request on:

• Weekdays from 9:20 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. to 11 p.m.
• Weekends and holidays from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Transit is also pairing the On-Request zone with a new route in the area for neighbourhoods without existing service. Route 334 Adsum will link the Castlebury Meadows and Waterford Green neighbourhoods to Garden City Shopping Centre during peak times.

"As one of the representatives for the northwest area, I am thrilled to announce the addition of a fourth zone to Winnipeg Transit's On-Request service," said Vivian Santos, Councillor of Point Douglas. "This new zone will provide enhanced transit options for our community. It is a significant step forward in improving accessibility and convenience for our residents."

"I have received lots of input from area residents about the need for reliable transit service," said Devi Sharma, Councillor of Old Kildonan. "I was happy to advocate through the budget for increased transit service, and I am thrilled to see that come to fruition through the expansion of Winnipeg Transit On-Request to Old Kildonan."

On-Request currently operates in three zones across the city:

• 101: St. Amant - Plaza Drive
• 102: Southdale - Island Lakes
• 110: St. Boniface
