Texas Democrats Honor Houston Powerhouse Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee

AUSTIN, Texas - After a short but hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer, Texas Democratic giant and Houston powerhouse Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has passed away.

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:

"Surrounded by family, Congresswoman Jackson Lee leaves behind an iconic legacy that will withstand the test of time. Known for her relentless advocacy, the congresswoman dedicated her life to public service, advancing civil rights, healthcare reform, and disaster recovery. This unwavering commitment to her constituents in Houston's 18th district propelled Congresswoman Jackson Lee as one of the most respected and influential figures in the U.S. House. About Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee:

Jackson Lee's career began in Houston where she served as a municipal judge and Houston City Council Member in the late 1980s into the mid-1990s. She then sought higher aspirations and ran for congress in Texas' 18th district. Jackson Lee's congressional tenure was spent working tirelessly to secure federal funds for critical infrastructure projects, including flood control and transportation improvements. Her efforts were pivotal in supporting Hurricane Harvey recovery initiatives, ensuring that affected communities receive the necessary aid and resources.
