City of Fort Pierce Launches Comprehensive Safety Action Plan to Improve Transportation Safety

The City of Fort Pierce is taking proactive steps to reduce transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries with the introduction of its Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP). This initiative will begin this fall with a series of public meetings aimed at educating residents and gathering input to shape the plan.

Traffic crashes are a persistent issue in Fort Pierce, with an average of six accidents occurring daily over the past six years. The City recognizes the need for improvement and is committed to addressing these concerns. The CSAP will provide a framework for identifying and implementing key safety measures to make streets and roadways safer for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and those using public transportation or mobility devices.

Fort Pierce secured a federal grant to support safety planning and demonstration projects as part of this initiative. By developing the CSAP, the City will also be positioned to apply for additional funding to implement the safety projects identified during the planning process. The CSAP will continue to evolve with public input throughout its development, which is expected to extend through the spring of 2025.

The first public meeting will take place on October 16, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the River Walk Center, 600 North Indian River Drive, Fort Pierce. At this meeting, residents will have the opportunity to learn more about the plan and share their experiences with transportation in the city.
