Our New Senior Editor for Projects and Initiatives

I'm thrilled to announce Amanda Kludt, the journalist who built up Eater and became an executive at Vox Media, is joining The New York Times to serve as the senior editor overseeing Projects and Initiatives. In this newly created role, Amanda will oversee an innovative team that works across the newsroom and the company to create bespoke projects and series that advance our journalistic and strategic goals.

She will lead the entire Projects and Initiatives group, including the projects team helmed by Veronica Chambers, the Headway progress reporting team led by Matt Thompson, and the technology and sub-brand partnerships managed by Dan Sanchez. Heather Phillips remains pivotal to the operation, serving as a leader across all of these areas, liaising with the business side and managing the Learning Network. And Amanda will work in partnership with Arran Bardige, the executive director for Audience.

In addition, Amanda will work with desk heads and with R&D, Advertising and other relevant teams beyond the newsroom to continue deep partnerships that in the past have resulted in work like the machine-learning driven Climate FAQ, our publishing of AR on Instagram, and the homelessness project from Headway.

Amanda is a visionary leader who impressed us with her creativity, management experience and track record of success in collaborating with many teams to grow publications. Her most recent role was as group publisher of Eater, PS, Punch and Thrillist at Vox Media. She led and supported a team of more than 200 journalists, and worked with Vox Media's revenue, product, design, marketing and executive teams to ensure the success of those publications. Before that, she was editor in chief of Eater, and under her leadership, the publication expanded significantly and won three National Magazine Awards and two New York Emmy awards.

Please welcome her when she officially takes on the role next month.
