MURDER INVESTIGATION – 1800 BLOCK OF GARDENIA AVENUE

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of a male adult.

On May 29, 2024, at approximately 1:25 p.m., officers responded to the 1800 block of Gardenia Avenue, regarding multiple reports of a gunshot heard in the area.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Officers rendered medical aid and attempted life-saving measures until being relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. Through their preliminary investigation, detectives determined a male suspect approached the victim on foot, while the victim was standing in a nearby alley. The suspect shot the victim which ultimately resulted in the victim's death. The suspect fled the scene on foot prior to the officer's arrival.

The identity of the male adult victim will be withheld pending the notification to next of kin. The investigation to determine the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
