U.S. cattle inventory steady

Iowa saw growth in marketed cattle, beating both last month and last year's numbers.

U.S. cattle and calves on feed for the domestic slaughter market in feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.6 million head on Oct. 1, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported last week.

The inventory was slightly below the same date in 2023.
