Alumnus Joins Hillsdale Coaching Staff

LIVONIA, MICH. - This fall, Madonna alumnus Travis Schuba, '14, business administration, begins his first season as an assistant coach of the Hillsdale College men's basketball team.

Schuba joined the Chargers already possessing a wealth of coaching experience at a variety of levels in the game. Immediately prior to Hillsdale, Schuba spent two seasons as an assistant with the men's basketball program at Marietta College, a NCAA Division III institution in Ohio, where he helped guide the program to back-to-back winning seasons in the Ohio Athletic Conference, as well as an appearance in the 2023 OAC Tournament Championship game.

Prior to Marietta, Schuba coached the Davenport University women's basketball program for two years.

A northern Michigan native, Schuba was a basketball star at Kalkaska High School from 2007 to 2010 and gave the Blazers perhaps the program's signature all-time March Madness moment in March of 2009 when he hit a buzzer-beating shot in the corner to knock out the second-ranked team in Class C, Traverse City St. Francis, 48-47 in the first round of MHSAA postseason play.

Schuba brought his talents to Madonna University, where he helped turn the program around, with three straight winning seasons in his final three years, including Madonna's first-ever WHAC title and NAIA Tournament victory in 2012-13. Schuba earned first-team All-WHAC honors twice in basketball and also stood out as a two-sport athlete and All-WHAC baseball player.

After graduation, he spent two and a half years playing professionally with the Washington Generals, before moving into coaching as an assistant with Madonna in the 2016-17 season. He went on to serve as head coach at Traverse City Central High School for three years.

Schuba resides in Hillsdale with his wife, Brooke.
