Topeka, Kan. - One hundred and thirty-nine high school students will take their passion for art to the next level when they attend the annual Washburn University High School Art Day. These students will attend art workshops taught by Washburn art faculty, alumni and advanced Washburn University art education students. This event is hosted by the Washburn University art department. The workshops are open to pre-registered students only.
A new event this year will be an augmented reality session where all the students will tour the campus and use iPads to access interactive virtual art images superimposed on and around campus buildings-imagine a moving "mural" on Morgan Hall. The session will be led by Professor Wonjae Lee.
In conjunction with High School Art Day, these students enter one piece of artwork each in the juried High School Art Day Student exhibition from Nov. 1 - 8 in the art gallery of the Washburn University Art Building. The exhibition is available to view while the Art Building is open, 7:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday - Wednesday, and 7:30 a.m. - 8:45 p.m. Thursdays. There will be a reception 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6. The exhibition and reception are free and are open to the public.
