Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park gets upgrades; park still accessible for recreation opportunities

Bismarck, ND - One of the most-visited state parks in North Dakota is getting an upgrade! Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park is the oldest state park in North Dakota, and this week the park kicked off a large upgrade project that will give campers significant improvement in power and water delivery to their RVs.

While campsites and cabins in Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park's main campground are temporarily unavailable, the park is still accessible for outdoor enthusiasts. Hikers and bikers can explore the park's scenic trails, anglers can cast their lines into the Missouri and Heart rivers, and visitors can enjoy the historical sites. The park team is committed to ensuring visitors have a positive experience during this time, and special events, including Haunted Fort, will continue as scheduled.

Campers can continue to reserve the four equestrian campsites. Both comfort stations in the campground will be unavailable but all vault toilets will remain open.

The improvement project will upgrade modern electrical campsites from 20 and 30-amp to 20, 30 and 50-amp power while also adding individual water hydrants in the south and middle campground loops.

The mission of the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is to enrich generations through experiences that connect people and places.
