Booker Concludes 2024 Jersey Summer Road Trip

NEWARK, NJ - s, emphasizing his commitment to fighting - and delivering - for the state's priorities in Washington.

Booker's annual summer road trips began when he was first elected to the U.S. Senate 11 years ago, and are aimed at highlighting new congressionally directed spending for critical projects, discussing the Garden State's priorities, and supporting local organizations, businesses, and industries.

On the last day of his 2024 Jersey road trip, Booker announced a FY25 $500,000 congressionally directed spending award that he secured for Warren County Habitat for Humanity. Warren County Habitat for Humanity constructs homes for low-income families using volunteer labor and donated materials. They also help existing homeowners stay in their homes safely and affordably by providing critical home repairs.

"Today, I met with the heroes at Habitat for Humanity in Warren County who work day in and day out to improve housing for their neighbors," said Senator Booker. "I know that this new federal funding will help this organization continue their important efforts to expand affordable housing and improving housing conditions for families in need."

"This is such an important day for our affiliate and an honor to be recognized by Senator Booker in this way," said Ben Eskow, Executive Director, Warren Habitat for Humanity. "We are humbled by Senator Booker's support and thankful for his commitment to our work. This grant will make such a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve and have a huge impact toward delivering affordable housing in Warren County."

Booker then traveled to Special Olympics New Jersey's Sports Complex in Mercer County, where he announced a FY25 $500,000 congressionally directed spending award that he sponsored on their behalf. Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides sports training and competition opportunities in 22 sports, along with health screenings, fitness programs, athlete leadership, and mentorship initiatives to 26,000 athletes across New Jersey. This new funding will be used for health and training programs specifically designed for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

"Rounding out the 2024 road trip by visiting the Special Olympics New Jersey Sports Complex reminded me once again of the greatness that lies within each of us," said Senator Booker. "This facility makes an immense difference in the lives of the individuals they serve and it was my honor to secure new federal funding that will allow this organization to expand programming and continue to improve the well-being of the entire community."

"We are eternally grateful for the continued support of Senator Cory Booker to the mission of Special Olympics New Jersey and the thousands of athletes across the Garden State," said Heather Andersen, President & CEO - Special Olympics New Jersey. "These funds will provide numerous health, training, and inclusive programming opportunities to enhance the lives of this vulnerable population by promoting physical and mental well-being."

"This year's road trip was one of the most inspiring yet, and reminded me of all the ways that New Jerseyans support and serve each other without recognition or expectation," said Senator Booker. "It is the privilege of my life to serve the people of our state in Washington."
