Can you imagine a day without water

It's easy for us to take for granted the luxury of simply turning on the tap to access safe, clean water. But what if, one day, that didn't happen? What if we faced the unimaginable? Waking up to a day without water.

On October 17, 2024, communities across the country joined together to recognize Imagine a Day Without Water to raise awareness about the value of water and the critical need for investment in our water systems.

What Would a Day Without Water Look Like?

Without water, even for a single day, daily life would come to a halt. Simple acts like cooking, cleaning and hydration would be impossible. Businesses, from restaurants to tech companies to healthcare, would be disrupted. Our creeks, streams and natural spaces that rely on a balanced water system would be in jeopardy.

What Can We Do?

While a day without water might seem extreme, our water infrastructure is aging, and we must continue to make smart investments to secure our future water supply.

At Valley Water, we work every day to ensure a reliable water supply for Santa Clara County. From repairing pipelines to expanding purified water projects, like those at the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center, continuous investment is critical to protecting our future.

Imagine a Day Without Water also serves as a reminder of the importance of water conservation and stewardship. We must continue to make conservation a way of life. Simple actions like fixing leaks and reducing water waste make a big difference. Start by replacing the fixtures in your home with WaterSense-labeled products to save water and energy.

We can't afford to wait for a day when water stops flowing. Let's use this day to reflect on the importance of water in our lives and commit to protecting this precious resource. With the right actions today, we can avoid the unthinkable tomorrow.
