Camden County Rescinds Local State of Emergency While Continuing Recovery Efforts

The Camden County Board of Commissioners, in collaboration with city councils from Kingsland, St. Marys, and Woodbine, announces the rescission of the local States of Emergency for Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Effective at 5:00 PM today, both Declarations of Emergency (DOE) will be officially lifted. While we return to a state of normalcy, our recovery efforts will continue until the community is fully restored.

As of Friday, October 11, 2024, all municipal and county government offices will reopen to the public during their normal business hours. However, offices will close on Monday, October 14, 2024, in observance of the Columbus Day holiday, and will resume all normal operations on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

Key Recovery Updates:

  • Damage reporting for residents affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton remains a priority. Please continue to report any structural damage on the Camden County website at https://www.camdencountyga.gov/1149/Report-Damage to ensure. This assists in ongoing damage assessments, emergency declarations and recovery efforts.
  • Debris removal efforts continued collection at 1:00 PM today. Crews will work diligently until all debris is cleared from our communities.
  • Landfill Operations at MSW and C & D sites will reopen normal operations Friday, October 11, 2024, and will have extended operating hours until 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 12, 2024. The Old Still yard debris site remains closed to the public in order to accommodate the vegetative yard debris hauling service operations.
  • Sheltering at the PSA is now closed.
  • Sandbag operations have been suspended as of today.

We are deeply grateful to Camden County residents for their cooperation and readiness during these storms. Your efforts-securing homes, gathering supplies, and staying informed-were crucial. Although we were fortunate to avoid the worst with no reports of damage or injury, Hurricane Milton reminds us that preparation is always essential.

We also want to recognize the Camden County EMA, county and city public safety and public works crews, elected officials, Naval Sub Base Kings Bay, the Camden County School System, and Cumberland Island National Seashore, the American Red Cross, the Department of Family and Children Services, Southeast Georgia Health System-Camden Campus, and the Coastal Georgia Public Health for their tireless and unified efforts. A special thanks to the Public Service Authority for providing shelter for vulnerable populations.

A big thank you to the Camden County Chamber of Commerce for organizing local businesses to supply meals to our emergency staff and shelter residents. Special recognition goes to Huey Magoo's, OBX, The Green Room, Hog N Bones, M & A's Seafood Market, Camden County Senior Center, Restoration Church, The Harbor Worship Center, Southeast Community Church, Agape Church, Point Peter Baptist, and First Baptist Kingsland for their generosity. Your kindness lifted morale and made a big difference during this challenging time.
