Jury Finds Connecticut Man Guilty of Sexual Assault of College Student

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(New Britain, CT) - Christian M. Watson, New Britain Judicial District State's Attorney, announced that a jury in New Britain Superior Court today found Cole Szegda, age 22, of Columbia, Connecticut, guilty of Sexual Assault in the First Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(1).

Evidence at trial showed the defendant sexually assaulted the victim, a student at Central Connecticut State University, on October 23, 2020 in a campus dormitory. The Honorable Carl E. Taylor presided over the trial.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 29, 2024 in New Britain Superior Court.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant State's Attorney Sara Greene with the assistance of Inspector Felix Perez.
