Officers in Dorchester Proactively Thwart Break-in, Arrest Suspect and Recover Stolen Goods

At about 2:15 AM, on Sunday, July 14th, 2024, Officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) were on patrol when they heard an audible alarm coming from a business located at 338 Washington St, Dorchester. When Officers investigated the alarm, they witnessed the steel grates of the storefront rise and a masked suspect wielding a crowbar and fabric bag exit the store.

Officers notified radio operations of the suspect's description and direction of flight, which led to Officers locating the suspect near 306 Washington St. Officers stopped the suspect and identified him as Jose Torres, 63, of Boston. After an investigation, Officers recovered a crowbar he was carrying along with a fabric sheet rolled up, containing large quantities of various tobacco products including cartons of cigarettes and rolling papers.

Jose Torres was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the charges of Breaking & Entering in the Nighttime to Commit a Felony, Possession of a Burglarious Instrument, and Malicious Destruction of Property Over $1,200 Dollars.
