Parking Enforcement Enhancement

The Village is leveraging new technology to facilitate more efficient parking enforcement. As brought to light through the 2022 Parking Study, improved parking enforcement will help manage the Village's public parking inventory, to better serve visitors, residents, and commuters and support economic growth.

Parking enforcement vehicles are now equipped with license plate reader (LPR) cameras. License Plate Reader (LPR) cameras use license plate data to check if a parked vehicle is compliant with applicable regulations in real time. Vehicles in compliance are verified instantly, while non-compliant vehicles are subject to receiving a citation. Parking enforcement officers can now more efficiently monitor parking areas while driving, increasing their coverage and efficiency. The system helps to ensure consistent enforcement efforts in all meter, permit, and time-limited parking areas.

The Village is also in the process of establishing a local adjudication process to process parking and certain minor offenses in lieu of utilizing the Cook County Circuit Court. More information on that process will be available later this summer.
