WESTMORELAND - Today, state Rep. Eric Davanzo (R-Westmorland) released the following statement in response to the ongoing attempts by U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) and other elected officials to count illegally submitted ballots and overturn the determined results of the 2024 Senate election.
"Sen. Bob Casey has served this Commonwealth for decades, often portraying himself as an adamant supporter of the rule of law. However, his recent actions have spoken louder than words. Not only has Sen. Casey refused to concede his race, but his antidemocratic antics have also swindled four sets of Democratic County commissioners who are disregarding precedent set by our state Supreme Court.
"Four days before the general election, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, a body elected by the people, reaffirmed a state law requiring mail-in ballots to be properly dated. Furthermore, for a vote to count, it must be cast by someone who is registered to do so.
"Democrats are admittedly allowing the counting of fraudulent votes to take place across Pennsylvania. This action is not only shameful, but also disingenuous to the millions of Pennsylvanians who made the effort to get legally registered and follow the guidelines.
"On the brink of a recount, Sen. Casey and Democratic commissioners' unlawful actions have thrown rule of law out the window and made a mockery of our elections.
"No matter your name, your tenure, or office, no elected official is above the law. The efforts by Sen. Casey to count improper ballots and misconstrue the results of Pennsylvania's Senate election is undemocratic, irresponsible and downright disrespectful to the residents of our Commonwealth.
"On Nov. 5, the world looked upon our Commonwealth to deliver the election results in a uniform and efficient manner. Now, 11 days later, election denialism from Sen. Casey has undermined election integrity in Pennsylvania and will ultimately cost Pennsylvania millions more in taxpayer resources due to a recount.
"Today, I am urging Gov. Josh Shapiro and his administration to intervene in the clear and present danger to our elections. Shapiro must call on the county commissioners acting in bad faith, as well as Sen. Casey, to follow the law as written. As the leader of our Commonwealth, it is his responsibility to protect our elections by supporting the court's precedents. Shapiro must do right by those who elected him and join the many calls for Sen. Casey to follow the law and outcomes of this election."
