September is National Campus Safety Awareness and National Preparedness Month. In the spirit of this important campaign, please review these key reminders and essential information to help keep you safe and our campuses prepared.
See Something, Say Something
The University of Miami has dedicated public safety personnel present at all times on all our campuses. However, campus safety is a shared responsibility. If something seems off, please immediately report it.
Peak of Hurricane Season
September also marks the historical peak of hurricane season. Advance planning and simple steps can make all the difference. Ensure you have a personal evacuation plan and assemble a kit with key supplies to last three to seven days. Visit the University of Miami Hurricane Preparedness website for additional important information.
Investments in Safety
The University continues to make significant investments in security technology and infrastructure to keep you and our campuses safe. This includes:
Safety Escorts and Ride Safety
You never have to walk alone. Safety escorts are available 24/7 on all University of Miami campuses. Also, on the Coral Gables Campus, Freebee (formerly Safe Ride) is available Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. for transportation within the campus and certain surrounding areas.
Training Opportunities
The University of Miami offers a wide range of training programs to ensure students and faculty and staff members are prepared for potential emergencies.
Public Safety officials across the University work around the clock to keep our campuses safe and facilities secure. Each member of the University community plays an integral role in accomplishing this, so take action. Review your plan, save key phones numbers, or register for a training. Take a simple step in support of safety today.
