Friday Night Lane Closures on I-85 SB as Resurfacing Project Begins
Expect Traffic Delays
METRO ATLANTA -Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will install weekend lane closures on Interstate 85 (I-85) between State Route (SR) 140/Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Steve Reynolds Boulevard to begin a resurfacing project in Gwinnett County. This resurfacing project will produce a smoother ride for drivers while also improving the condition of the deteriorating roadway
Weather and on-site conditions permitting, crews will close three left lanes on I-85 southbound between Steve Reynolds Boulevard and Jimmy Carter Boulevard from 7 p.m. on Friday, August 9 until 3 a.m. on Saturday.
On-site message boards and traffic control measures will alert drivers approaching the area. Lane closures help ensure safety for workers and drivers through the project area as crews continue milling, inlay and resurfacing to improve the deteriorating roadway.
This $25.3 million projectis scheduled for completion in late fall 2024.
Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through the work zone during the project work hours. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
