Southbound I-79 Single-lane Restriction this Weekend in Allegheny County

09/19/2024

Pittsburgh, PA - PennDOT District 11 is announcing southbound I-79 will be reduced to a single-lane of traffic in Neville and Robinson townships, Allegheny County beginning Friday night, September 20 through Monday morning, September 23 weather permitting.

Southbound I-79 from just south of the Route 51/Neville Island (Exit 65) off-ramp continuing approximately one-half mile will be restricted to a single-lane of traffic around-the-clock from 7 p.m. Friday night through 6 a.m. Monday morning for bridge deck repair work.

Additionally, northbound I-79 will be reduced to a single-lane of traffic between the Route 51/Coraopolis/McKees Rocks (Exit 64) exit and the Neville Island Bridge beginning 7 p.m. Friday night through 7 a.m. Saturday morning, September 20-21. This restriction will be in place to allow crews to conduct milling and paving operations. The ramps on northbound I-79 at the Route 51/Coraopolis/McKees Rocks (Exit 64) interchange will be maintained.

This work is part of the $43.9 million I-79 "S-Bend" Project that includes full-depth pavement reconstruction, bridge preservation work on five mainline structures (I-79 northbound and southbound over Clever Road, I-79 northbound and southbound over Route 51, and the Neville Island Bridge). Additionally, there will be milling and paving of three ramps at the Route 51 (Coraopolis/McKees Rocks) interchange. The project also includes guiderail replacement, highway lighting and signing upgrades, new pavement markings and delineation, and other miscellaneous construction work.
