INTERSTATE 16: Emergency Utility Work Scheduled for Wednesday
[Link]
Soperton, Ga. - Georgia State Patrol is scheduled to pace traffic on Interstate 16 in Treutlen County on Wednesday morning.

Altamaha EMC has informed the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) of emergency utility work that must be performed near milepost 78 and State Route 86.

On Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., GSP will begin pacing eastbound traffic at milepost 72.5, and westbound traffic at milepost 82.5. In each direction, there will be three GSP cars and one utility truck. Troopers will slow traffic to 20mph. Once traffic is slowed, one GSP car will escort the utility truck to the work site. The two remaining GSP cars will continue pacing traffic at 20mph while the utility company performs its work. During this time, access to I-16 west via Exit 78 will be temporarily closed.

The utility company told Georgia DOT this work should take about 15 minutes. Once work is complete, traffic will be released and allowed to resume normal flow. If traffic reaches the work zone before work is complete, GSP will lead traffic through the work zone and allow normal flow to resume after clearing the work zone. Troopers will then return to their original starting location and begin a new pace. This process will continue until work is complete.
