Tax rate remains same as last year, budget adopted for 2024-25

The City of Mesquite's City Council unanimously voted on Sept. 3 to adopt the budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year and keep the tax rate the same as last year at $0.69000 per $100.00 assessed valuation.

"This year's budget allows funding for a growing community at the level expected but also provides funding for the Council's goals and initiatives," City Manager Cliff Keheley said.

Rates and Fees

The cost of water supplied by the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) has risen by 7%. The City will raise combined water rates by 5% to keep up with NTMWD's rising costs. The increase is due to costs of labor needed to treat drinking water and major capital investments to ensure adequate water levels are available due to increased demand.

Fees for residential Solid Waste have not increased. Commercial customers will see a 7% increase.

Budget

City council adopted the fiscal year 2024-25 budget, which remains the same as last year.

  • General fund expenditures of $175,104,480
  • Cyber Security expansion
  • IT Infrastructure enhancements
  • An increase of four additional firefighters
  • Four additional police officers and two K9s
  • 3% cost of living increase for employees
