Special Assembly Public Health & Safety Committee Meeting Next Week

​In response to recent Mayor's Office updates outlining actions for investigating and improving Anchorage Police Department practices, Assembly Public Health & Safety CommitteeCo-Chair Kameron Perez-Verdia announced a special committee meeting next week. The Special Public Health & Safety Committee Meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 21 from 12:45-1:45PM at City Hall, Suite 155. The meeting will be livestreamed on YouTubeand available for later viewing.

"In the wake of the tragic loss of Easter Leafa's life, we all play a part in grieving, healing and doing the work it will take to keep this from happening again," said Assembly Member Perez-Verdia. "During next week's special committee meeting, I invite the Administration to present a detailed overview of the action plan announced today and welcome the ideas and priorities of my fellow assembly members to engage in the partnership it will take to make meaningful change."

Member Perez-Verdiacontinued, "In addition to the conversation the branches of government will have next week, it is my intent to cohost a community conversation alongside the Administration and community partners. When tragedy happens, it hurts all of us. Public officials should hear from the community, expressing real emotions and feelings around this issue and figure out how we move forward."
