ECU names new Director of Alumni Relations

August 23, 2024

ADA, Okla. - Alyson Smotherman has recently been named the new East Central University Director of Alumni Relations.

"ECU has always been my home away from home," said Smotherman, "and I'm so excited to come back and begin working with our Tiger alumni."

The Director of Alumni Relations is a position that focuses on outreach, networking, communications and general support between alumni and graduates through a variety of events and fundraisers, among many other responsibilities.

Smotherman, a 2018 graduate of ECU, has dedicated a great portion of her career to higher education since her graduation.

"I began my career here in new student recruitment, so to me, working with the new graduates and alumni is a full circle moment," she said.

Smotherman first served as Admissions Recruiter for ECU from her graduation until 2020. After two years of service with ECU, she took on the role of Transfer Admissions Counselor for the University of Central Oklahoma and later joined Paycom as Operations Campus Recruiter. She held this position until 2023 before making her much anticipated return to ECU as the Director of Career Development in the fall.

"ECU gave me everything, and I had hoped for the opportunity to give back to this community and the people who make it so special."

A short time after her return, a search to fill the role of Director of Alumni Relations began and Smotherman found this to be an even more fitting role for interests and skills.

"My mother, grandmother, and aunt all attended ECU, so carrying on this legacy and tradition of ECU is crucial for me."

Smotherman officially began her role as the ECU Director of Alumni Relations in the summer of 2024, one of her first major projects has been the organization and implementation of the 2024 Homecoming events on Oct. 4-5.

For more information on Homecoming or to register for any of the events taking place over the course of the weekend, visit ecok.edu/2024HC or contact Smotherman at 580-559-5651 or email at [email protected].
