Published on August 23, 2024

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) invites residents to an open house Wednesday, August 28, regarding a Lincoln on the Move street improvement project on Normal Boulevard from 33rd to 70th streets. The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gere Library, 2400 South 56th St.

This Lincoln on the Move project will improve approximately three miles of Normal Boulevard. Work includes base repairs of the street where required, curb and median repair or replacement, joint and crack sealing, inlet and inlet top replacements, and public utility adjustments.

Work with other funding sources includes traffic signal replacement at South Street, 40th Street, 48th Street, and 56th Street, and pedestrian ramp reconstruction to meet federal and local standards. The project is estimated to cost $7.7 million dollars.

Construction will be completed in segments to reduce impacts to traffic. Beginning September 2024, work will begin at 33rd Street and Normal Boulevard and extend east to Cotner Boulevard. Work is scheduled to pause through winter and resume in spring 2025, beginning at Cotner Boulevard and continuing to move east to 70th Street.

Members of the project team will be available to answer questions and provide an overview of the project, as well as information on the planned improvements, project phasing and the construction schedule. No formal presentation is planned.

Lincoln on the Move is a six-year street investment effort focused on enhancing Lincoln's street infrastructure that will dedicate an additional $96 million to street projects in Lincoln through 2025.
