Chinese and Russian coast guards hold joint drills

BEIJING, Sept. 19 -- According to the annual plan of the China Coast Guard (CCG), a formation consisting of CCG vessels Meishan and Xiushan visited Russia to conduct joint drills in Peter the Great Gulf in the Primorsky Region from September 16 to 20.

The joint exercise focused on addressing maritime law enforcement security threats and maritime search and rescue. Key drills included joint search, intercepting, boarding and searching suspected criminal vessels, rescuing individuals overboard, and assisting vessels on fire. The exercise aimed to test the ability of the Chinese and Russian coast guards to jointly maintain maritime security.

After the joint exercise, CCG vessels Meishan and Xiushan will join Russian Coast Guard vessels the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Kamchatsky on September 21 to form a task force and head for the waters of the northern Pacific Ocean to conduct a joint patrol.
