Backnang, 3 December 2024 - Tesat-Spacecom GmbH & Co. KG (TESAT) and TESAT Government (TESAT Gov) are pleased to announce their selection by Lockheed Martin to provide SCOT80 optical communication terminals (OCT) for a demonstration on a future GPS III spacecraft.
TESAT and TESAT Gov successfully passed its Critical Design Review earlier this year and are on track to deliver flight hardware this year.
Justin Luczyk, TESAT Government's Managing Director commented, "TESAT Government is excited to be part of an effort to deliver an optical communication terminal for a GPS satellite in medium Earth orbit (MEO)."
TESAT's SCOT80 is an 80 mm aperture OCT capable of supporting data rates of up to 100 Gbps, complies with Space Development Agency's (SDA's) OCT Standard 3.1, and has a path for compatibility to updated standards such as Standard 4.0.
Currently, 48 SCOT80 OCTs are in orbit with different prime contractors including Lockheed Martin and Kepler Communications, Inc., the latter of which recently announced they had established optical inter-satellite links between two Pathfinder satellites in low earth orbit.
