AGA FMT National Registry reaches 1,000 enrolled

The AGA Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) and Other Gut Microbial Therapies National Registry has enrolled over 1,000 patients. This exciting milestone marks halfway to the goal of tracking 2,200 patients for 10 years.

Thank you to the 27 clinical sites across the U.S. who have contributed to this success. The data collected will allow us to identify potential short-term adverse outcomes to FMT and to search for long-term safety outcomes, such as development of chronic conditions like irritable bowel syndrome, obesity and diabetes.

The registry has started a second protocol, approved in February 2024, collecting data on FMT and other gut microbial therapies for acute severe and fulminant Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI).

The registry is funded by the National Institutes of Health and administered by the AGA Center for Gut Microbiome Research & Education.
