Cumberland County temporarily closes Hertzler Bridge to traffic

As a safety precaution, Cumberland County's Hertzler Bridge in Carlisle was closed to traffic Wednesday after a routine bridge inspection revealed minor issues that require further investigation.

The county's bridge engineer Herbert, Rowland & Grubic is working with PennDOT to develop a solution to repair and reopen the bridge later this year, a press release said.

A detour will be put in place shortly.

The historic steel truss bridge on Creek Road spans 216 feet and crosses the Conodoguinet Creek in West Pennsboro and Lower Frankford Townships. The bridge sees an average daily traffic rate of 460 vehicles and is weight posted to eight tons.
