Memory of Fallen in Great Patriotic War Honoured at Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery

On 22 June 2024, at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery in St. Petersburg, a solemn mourning ceremony was held to mark the 83rd anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Representatives of the IPA CIS took part in the event.

A wreath and flowers were laid at the foot of the monument "Motherland" by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council - Plenipotentiary Representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hyak Chilingaryan, Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council - Plenipotentiary Representative of theNational Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Kogut, Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council - Plenipotentiary Representative of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Igor Musalimov, Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council - Plenipotentiary Representative of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Shabdanbek Alishev, Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council - Plenipotentiary Representative of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Abdukhalil Gafurzoda, other staff members of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council.

Representatives of the IPA CIS also laid flowers at the memorial slabs in memory of the natives of the former Soviet republics who fell in the battles.

The Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery is a monument to the victims of the Great Patriotic War, a witness to the universal tragedy and a place of universal worship. The memorial is dedicated to the memory of Leningraders and defenders of the city. In the mass graves rest 420 thousand inhabitants of Leningrad who died from hunger, cold, disease, bombing and shelling, as well as 70 thousand soldiers - defenders of Leningrad.
