Ibrahimović in New York: Strengthening the transatlantic partnership contributes to global security

On the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović participated in a working breakfast for the foreign ministers of the US-Adriatic Charter member countries. The event was hosted by Albania's Foreign Minister Igli Hasani, as part of Albania's chairmanship of the A5 initiative, which includes Montenegro, the United States, Albania, Croatia, and North Macedonia, with observer countries Serbia and Kosovo.

The meeting was also attended by US Assistant Secretary of State James O'Brien.

Deputy Prime Minister Ibrahimović stated that the A5 initiative symbolizes shared values and close cooperation aimed at realizing the vision of a stable and prosperous region. He noted that while global challenges make achieving this goal more difficult, the A5 continues to fulfill its mission. The only way to adequately respond to growing threats and challenges is to collaborate even more closely, strengthening our integrity and collective security while advancing toward a goal shared by all Western Balkan countries-membership in the European Union. Our partner and friendly countries, including through the A5 format, help us achieve this, he added.

Minister Ibrahimović also participated in the transatlantic dinner for foreign ministers, organised in New York last night by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The discussions focused on ways to further strengthen transatlantic cooperation, which is particularly important amid increasing conflicts and deteriorating global security. The talks addressed Russia's aggression in Ukraine and the necessity of maintaining stability and closer cooperation between the US and European countries in addressing numerous global challenges, especially hybrid threats.

Minister Ibrahimović reaffirmed that Montenegro remains a reliable partner and credible NATO ally, fully committed to preserving peace and stability in the region and the Euro-Atlantic area. He emphasised that the transatlantic partnership is essential for overcoming current political, economic, and security challenges and for strengthening global stability, particularly in the current geopolitical context.
