Dr. Kim to serve as keynote speaker at Minnesota State Teaching and Learning Conference

St. Cloud State University's Dr. Ruthanne Soohee Crāpo Kim will serve as the keynote speaker at the upcoming 2024 Network for Educational Development (NED) Teaching and Learning Conference on Sept. 26-27.

NED was established to provide more opportunities to collaborate and share best teaching and learning practices across Minnesota State colleges and universities. The event is an opportunity for faculty to gain inspiration, connect with peers, reflect with others and enhance teaching and learning strategies.

Kim, who is the faculty lead for SCSU's Center for Antiracism Education Initiative, will give a keynote address titled "Emergent Strategies for Minnesota State." She hopes the session will serve as an interactive and creative reimagination of teaching and learning in Minnesota State.

"Emergent strategies tend not to originate from the center or top of an organization, but from small ideas, unusual places, and unexpected sources," Kim said. "They are the groundswell of ideas gaining prominence beside an organization's deliberate strategy."

The session will explore Adrienne Maree Brown's elements of emergent strategies: fractal relationships, adaptive change, interdependence-decentralization, nonlinear-iterative processes, resilience-transformative justice, and how to create more possibilities that move us toward life.

Several SCSU faculty and staff who serve on the Minnesota State Educational Development Committee have been a part of the planning and review process for the event.

"This is an excellent conference offered at an affordable price point," said Janet Tilstra, Director of SCSU's Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. "It's a great way to connect with other educators in the region and learn useful teaching and learning skills."

There is still time to register for the conference. Registration closes on Friday, Sept 13. Registration costs range from $25 for online access to $75 for In-person participation at Metro State. Optional morning workshops on Sept. 26 are also available.
