JetBlue Pilots Elect Union Officers During Ongoing Negotiations

WASHINGTON-On Friday, Sept. 27, the voting members of the JetBlue Master Executive Council (MEC) of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l (ALPA) elected new union leadership for the nearly 5,000 JetBlue pilots as they pursue a new collective bargaining agreement through ongoing negotiations under Section 6 of the Railway Labor Act. Capt. Wayne Scales, Capt. Brian Dirlam, and Capt. Jason Mauk were elected MEC chairman, MEC vice chairman, and MEC secretary-treasurer, respectively. Their terms began immediately and will end on Oct. 31, 2025.

Capt. Wayne Scales, MEC chairman

Based in Boston, Capt. Scales previously served as MEC vice chairman, Communications Committee chairman, and Strategic Preparedness and Strike Committee chairman. He joined JetBlue in 2013 after tenures at Trans States Airlines and Virgin America.

Capt. Brian Dirlam, MEC vice chairman

Capt. Dirlam has previously served as MEC vice chairman, a local council representative, and secretary-treasurer in the Boston base. He has also been a member of the Grievance and the Pilot-to-Pilot committees. Before joining JetBlue in 2007, Capt. Dirlam flew for Pinnacle Airlines.

Capt. Jason Mauk, MEC secretary-treasurer

Based in Los Angeles, Capt. Mauk has served on the Pilot-to-Pilot Committee and is the current interim chairman for the Jumpseat and Pass Travel committees. He has also been his local council's secretary-treasurer. He served on the organizing drives to bring the JetBlue pilot group into ALPA. Prior to joining JetBlue in 2003, Capt. Mauk flew for Comair.

"It is an honor to have been elected to this position and to lead this pilot group as we negotiate the next collective bargaining agreement at JetBlue," said Capt. Scales. "This pilot group has continually demonstrated its resolve to achieve career gains. We will continue to build unity in our efforts to further advance the careers of JetBlue pilots in the next contract."
