Anonymous Donor Provides $1.5 Million for Gaza Crisis Relief

ATLANTA, GA, AUGUST 7, 2024 -Today, CARE announced a $1.5 million gift from an anonymous donor to provide urgently-needed humanitarian relief in Gaza where suffering and fear continue to be a daily reality for millions. Since last October, Palestinians across the territory have faced tens of thousands of deaths, mass displacement, starvation, disease, and the decimation of healthcare and other infrastructure.

Despite unprecedented challenges, humanitarian aid has been reaching those in desperate need. To date, CARE has provided approximately 620,000 Palestinians in Gaza with food, water, shelter supplies, health provisions, and other lifesaving assistance. Just last month, the organization was able to open a health clinic in Deir Al-Balah, in central Gaza, providing pre and postnatal care, women's sexual and reproductive health services, nutrition for children, primary healthcare for communicable and non-communicable diseases, psychological support, and medications.

This new funding will bolster this work, which includes a focus on women and girls who have been disproportionately impacted. It will also play a crucial role in maintaining the operational readiness of CARE's committed team in the region, ensuring that they can continue to deliver vital services and support in Gaza.

"This donor's generosity will go a long way to strengthen and expand CARE's efforts to provide for Palestinian civilians living through this horrific moment. We are incredibly grateful for this support," said Michelle Nunn, CARE President and CEO. "We hope this gift will inspire more private donors to step up to extend our reach in the critical work ahead."
