H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, the Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), received a courtesy call by Mr. Dorji Phuntsho, Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Securities Exchange of Bhutan (RSEB), on August 7, 2024, at the NBC.

At the meeting, Mr. Dorji Phuntsho expressed his interest in exploring the development of Cambodia's payment system, particularly Bakong, and commended the significant advancements made under H.E. Dr. Chea Serey's leadership. He highlighted the Bakong system's international recognition as a model for developing digital payment systems for other central banks and monetary authorities. Mr. Dorji also extended an invitation for H.E. Dr. Chea Serey to be a keynote speaker at the Bhutan Innovation Forum, scheduled to take place from October 1 to 3, 2024.

In response, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey thanked the RSEB delegation for the recognition of Cambodia's payment system. She welcomed the proposals for further collaboration, including a study on the development of the Bakong payment system. Additionally, she agreed in principle to the invitation to the upcoming Bhutan Innovation Forum.
