August at Kyoto Group: Progress at KALL and our time at Arendalsuka
Getting up to speed in August!
August is saying goodbye but we're saying hello to new updates from KALL Heatcube, recapping our participation at Arendalsuka 2024 and sharing an interesting report from McKinsey that highlights the importance of electrified industrial heat production.
As autumn is soon approaching, and September begins, gear up for the upcoming season with these updates and look ahead to our upcoming events in September.
KALL Heatcube site buzzing with activity!
This August, the KALL Heatcube site has been a hive of progress and collaboration. We're thrilled to share some exciting updates from the Heat-as-a-Service project in Hungary:
- Heatcube's steel structure is complete and 8 molten salt tanks have been installed, marking a significant step forward in our journey.
- Schneider Electric's auxiliary transformer and Heatcube's Battery Management System have arrived on site, further boosting our capabilities.

Heatcube's upper Heater has been successfully installed, setting the stage for the next phase of our operation.

Kyoto at Arendalsuka 2024
The Kyoto participated in a total of three different events during this year's Arendalsuka. We held our own event: Why Norway's Renewable Energy Boom is Happening Everywhere But Here - where our CEO, Camilla Nilsson, led an engaging debate, diving into the paradox facing Norway's green innovators, together with guest speakers Siren Sundby, Gunnar Birkeland and John M. The future of industrial heat is electric
Recently, McKinsey & Company published a report on the electrification of industrial heat production. The report highlights an important point: electrification is not only technically feasible but also increasingly cost-competitive.
Gas prices have been viewed as a stable and cost-effective option for industrial heating. However, the volatility in gas markets has started to change this perception. With the rise of renewable energy sources, electricity prices are increasingly competitive, often falling below the costs associated with gas and carbon emissions. This report shows that in 2023, electricity was cheaper than gas for approximately 15 to 25% of hours in key markets like Germany and Spain.
At Kyoto, we resonate deeply with this through our innovative Heatcube. As industries face the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions, Heatcube offers a reliable and cost-effective method for electrifying industrial heat processes.

CDI Summer Summit 2024
Info Kyoto's Commercial Director for Northern Europe Lars Martinussen will participate in the workshop: "Heat storage - range of technologies and their potential" at CDI Summer Summit 2024, which will take place at at Siemens Energy Innovation Campus, in Görlitz.
This interactive workshop will explore the range of technology within high-temperature heat storage and assess the potential of the solutions for the provision of CO2-neutral process heat for specific applications.
The workshop starts at 14:00 pm on September 12th and you can secure your spot below.

Energy Storage Central Eastern Europe
During Day 1 (September 24th) of Energy Storage Central Eastern Europe, our Chief Business Development Officer Tim de Haas will be speaking at the "Hungary: The Business Case" panel, taking place at Hilton Warsaw City in Poland.

Kyoto's Chief Business Development Officer Tim de Haas will be joining a panel discussion on "Accelerating industry electrification" on the Energy transition stage at Hamburg Messe and Congress during this year's WindEnergy Hamburg, 25th of September.
Industry uses about 40% of energy and generates 25% of greenhouse gas emissions globally. A lot of these emissions come from burning fossil fuels for the generation of heat, an essential element in many industrial processes. Heat generation can also be done with renewable electricity, but costs remain high. Thermal energy storage (TES) could help to solve this. Join us to discover how, with concrete examples from the chemicals and paper industries.
