Meeting between the Minister and Najib Mikati, Prime Minister of Lebanon (28.09.24)

Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, spoke to Najib Mikati, Prime Minister of Lebanon, this afternoon.

The Minister said that France is extremely concerned about developments in Lebanon over the past few hours.

France calls for an immediate halt to Israeli strikes in Lebanon and condemns any indiscriminate action against civilians. France is opposed to any ground operation in Lebanon.
It calls on the other actors, particularly Hezbollah and Iran, to refrain from any action likely to lead to further destabilization and a regional conflagration.

The security and protection of civilians, in both Lebanon and Israel, must be guaranteed.

The French authorities are in touch with the Lebanese authorities and France's partners in the region to prevent this conflagration. Messages are being conveyed to all the parties urging them to show the utmost restraint.

The French diplomatic network is actively working to ensure the safety of French people in the region, which is our priority.
