LATROBE, PA - Judge Mary McGinley of Allegheny County Common Pleas Court will deliver the address at Saint Vincent College's 2024 Winter Commencement. The ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 14 at the Performing Arts Center in the Robert S. Carey Student Center. McGinley was appointed as Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in 2019 by former Gov. Tom Wolf, then was elected to a 10-year term in 2020. Initially, McGinley served in the court's family division. In January 2020, she moved to the court's Civil Division, in which she presides over a variety of civil matters and is assigned special dockets relating to real estate and housing. McGinley recently was assigned to the court's Commerce and Complex Litigation Center.
Before becoming a judge, McGinley worked in private practice. As a trial attorney, she had a unique practice working on cases in the Pennsylvania trial courts' orphans' court division. She also handled complex commercial disputes in state and federal courts.
A graduate of Penn State University and the Duquesne University School of Law, McGinley is an officer of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges and previously served on the conference's Judicial Ethics Committee.
Raised in a family that emphasized the value of service, McGinley has held several volunteer and leadership positions throughout her career. She was a trustee of Carlow University and the Allegheny County Bar Association (ACBA) and is a past director of Pittsburgh Steelers Sports, Inc.
For more than 10 years, McGinley was co-chair of the ACBA's Attorneys Against Hunger Campaign. Jefferson Award for Public Service. She and co-chair William Strang were selected by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Highmark and BNY Mellon as 2014-15 Jefferson Award recipients for their work on the Attorneys Against Hunger campaign.
Among McGinley's other honors are Duquesne University School of Law Woman of the Year, the Duquesne Law Alumni Association Outstanding Achievement Award and ACBA Outstanding Young Lawyer.
