TRAFFIC ALERT: Expect Narrowed Lanes, Traffic Shift on Route 43 in Barton Co. Beginning Aug. 23

Where: Missouri Route 43 south of U.S. Route 160 in Barton County east of Mindenmines

When: Friday, August 23 until Friday, August 30

What: Contractor crews paving southbound shoulder, replacing permanent rumbles in northbound lanes

Traffic Impacts:

  • North- and southbound Route 43 lanes narrowed to 10 feet from Route 160 south approximately 1,000 feet
  • Contractor crews strengthening and paving southbound shoulder
  • Once shoulder work is complete, southbound traffic will be shifted on to shoulder and northbound traffic shifted into southbound lane
  • During traffic shift, contractor will remove and replace permanent rumbles in northbound lane
  • Drivers urged to watch for crews and equipment working close to traffic
  • No signed detour
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
  • Drivers should find alternate routes
  • Check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Weather and/or scheduling conflicts could alter the work schedule.

This work is in preparation for a resurfacing project on Barton County Route NN in Liberal and Missouri Route 43 between Liberal and Joplin. That project is scheduled to start later this summer.
