Voting Rights Act

Please join the ArentFox Schiff Center for Racial Equity as we commemorate the 59th Anniversary of The Voting Rights Act of 1965. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed The Voting Rights Act into law on August 6th, and it is recognized as one of the most impactful pieces of civil rights legislation in U.S. history. This landmark legislation, enacted during the height of the civil rights movement, aimed to overcome legal barriers at the state and local levels that prevented African Americans from exercising their right to vote. It has been amended five times by Congress to protect voting rights of other racial minorities and certain language-minority groups. The power, agency, and access to vote is a civil right for all.
