A man is in custody after a fire and pursuit in Sydney's south west.

About 2am today (Friday 2 August 2024), officers from Liverpool Police Area Command were on routine patrol along Hoxton Park Road, Liverpool, when they observed a restaurant on fire.

It will be alleged that officers sighted a Suzuki Swift leave the scene where they attempted to stop the vehicle.

When the vehicle failed to stop a pursuit was initiated but was terminated due to safety reasons.

As short time later police resighted the vehicle on Fifteenth Avenue, West Hoxton, and another pursuit was commenced.

The vehicle was followed into King Street, Rossmore, where it will be alleged that the driver stopped the vehicle and attempted to run from the scene but was arrested by officers.

A 20-year-old man has been taken to Liverpool Police Station and is assisting with inquiries.

Three businesses have been destroyed by the fire that was extinguished by NSW Fire and Rescue.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Crime scenes have been established at the businesses and in King Street.

No further information is available at this stage.
